Building an intellectual community

Professorships allow the University to build a thriving intellectual community by attracting promising scholars from around the world early in their careers.

The income from an endowed professorship may be used to:

  • Supplement a professor’s salary
  • Support research resources
  • Support various scholarly expenses

During the Campaign’s planning phase, support for endowed faculty positions on all of our campuses has risen 16%. These endowed positions include chairs, professorships, coaching positions and our first endowed deanship—for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Urbana-Champaign.
